Mystery of "Mystery"

Just like a movie, our life too is enriched with collections of soundtracks.
We all know how a song can move and inspire us limitlessly. A song, with its words, melodies, and layers of music, can pierce right through the deepest core of our soul, faster and more effective than a sharp bullet. We can remove a bullet from a wound, but a song can haunt us for a lifetime.

Dan selama yang namanya mesin waktu belum dijual di pasaran, sebuah lagu dapat menjalankan fungsi serupa, mengantarkan kita pada satu masa, faster than the speed of light (tanpa polusi lagi). Karena musik adalah pembatas halaman hidup kita.

I shall share with you all the one song that inspired me to write “Perahu Kertas” in the first place, way back in the 90’s. No. It’s not even the whole song. It’s just a chorus.

Maybe it’s all that we need is to meet in the middle of impossibilities
Standing at opposite poles, equal partners in a mystery
“Mystery” (Indigo Girls)

Out of those 23 words—packaged in the right melody, voice, and music—came out 70.000 words. Amazing, huh?

It’s still even a mystery for me.

  1. or maybe it's already there, kept for a long long time and lives, and just need a right time and right key to open it..

  2. Exactly what I thought as well. Every creation is already embedded within us all, just waiting for its own time and its own way to birth.

  3. I don't know what that chorus really means, I find it hard to explain it myself, although I read it a couple of times, can you explain it to me? I just finished reading your newest book Perahu Kertas and am so deeply touched and inspired. Sometimes, it's hard to really follow your heart where your brain thinks of something else. And I'm inspired to write a book as great as yours. I'm a big fan of you, D!
